Do we trust Obama or Romney?

Published 10:43am Saturday, August 11, 2012

To the Editor:

To the faith-based religious leaders throughout our nation and all races, denominations, and political parties.

Should we who are Christians be outraged about the disgraceful way the campaign is being conducted for President of the United States? Distortion of the truth, falsifying information, misrepresenting individuals, destroying all Christian attributes that leaders are expected to possess — honor and respect?

Barack Obama is the president. It isn’t surprising that there are some who haven’t accepted that a black man is the President. He has also done a great job, in spite of all the determined efforts by some to see him fail.

That however, makes it easier to understand why some ill-wishers feel intimidated by his successes even with a “We Will Not” Congress. No President can do everything or please everyone, especially considering the problems he inherited and the non-working, non-cooperative people he has tried to work with.

As we look back over the many dishonest transactions that occurred with some of the big banks, corporations, businesses, etc., in the last 10 or 12 years, no one knows just how many people have lost their life’s earnings because of the conniving and greed of a few, who stole from their companies while claiming the companies were losing money; they became millionaires and billionaires.

Observing some of the advertisements on TV trying to garner support for their candidate, I wonder how many of those supporting the ad that says “This is the worst economic recovery America has ever had” are responsible for the economic condition of America.

When anyone closes a company and walks away with billions in their pockets, they can also destroy a country. Can you imagine a multi-billionaire presidential candidate who has told the world that he was not concerned about the poor because money will eventually dribble down to them?

Has Mitt Romney told, or can he, tell us how the dribble will be done? It appears he hasn’t been able to give any clear answers to anything here in America or abroad, a flip-flop president the country does not need. Is it necessary to take what someone else has said, turn it around to make it a negative statement to try to benefit by it?

That really looks like desperation and limitation. Our nation deserves honest leadership, not someone who withholds his tax returns. Honest, smart businessmen would also know if he still owned, or was a part, of a company for three years.

Would income tax returns reveal what he has forgotten? How many times can he contradict himself on his own statements? Is Mitt Romney a law-abiding, legally-qualified presidential candidate?

“Ruby, It is people like you that causes all the racism.”

Obviously, you do not know this lady. That is the most ridiculous comment in a long series of ridiculous comments on this letter to the editor.

I am embarrassed and angry and disgusted that you would make such a suggestion about Mrs. Walden. Shame on you.

Like I said, it starts with reading, then thinking, then analyzing, you missed a couple of steps.

I said you would react to the jail situation as you had, but that was not my point. You asked me to analyze, so I did. Over $50,000,000 has been actually paid out in lawsuits, 1823 as of 2011 (abc15.com). You are right, anyone in that line of work will be sued, just not that unsuccessfully. My point was not about the inmates. It was that every dollar he claims to have saved by being the (self proclaimed) countries toughest sheriff, went right back out in lawsuits. This does not even take into count the legal fees to fight (and lose)the cases.

I didn’t mention that jails hold, for the most part, pre-trial detainees who have not yet been convicted of anything. Give me a prison that keeps inmates barely sustained and I could get behind it, a jail is a different thing.

I said exceptional clearances. Once again you read, but do not think. Please figure out the difference between the two before you check figures. Its like me saying most houses are white and you start looking up shingle sales. Like I said, answering your question is a waste of time, so off with you.

      • SandMan

And someone such as you, Sinoptik, who has never compiled figures for a Law Enforcement Agency, doesn’t know what “Exceptional clearance” means. That’s a way of saying” we know who did it, just don’t have enough to arrest” So, before you attempt to “cyber bully”, know your terms before you spout off from a different pulpit!

        Suggest Removal

      • Sinoptik

Well sandman, you should then know that exceptional clearances, as defined by the FBI, are designed to be used sparingly, after all other investigative means have been exhausted, to be able to clear the case.

What you are missing and wrong about is the definition, it seems you follow the Arpaio version.

The FBI states that the agency must fulfill all of the following:

        1. Identified the offender.

        2. Gathered enough evidence to support an arrest, make a charge, and turn over the offender to the court for prosecution.

        3. Identified the offender’s exact location so that the suspect could be taken into custody immediately.

        4. Encountered a circumstance outside the control of law enforcement that prohibits the agency from arresting, charging, and prosecuting the offender

As someone who compiles figures for law enforcement, you should know this.

Now, if a law enforcement agency is using this method to clear the majority of their cases, there is something wrong, be it lazy investigation, or misuse of manpower. I happen to think with Arpaio, it is both.

I listen to people complain about him, but I find fault with the House of Representatives and the Senate. I don’t care who the majority party is, either. It is their responsibility to represent us, the citizens. Have they done their job? Have they made decisions in the best interests of our country? No.
We all live on budgets, and in these times they are more frugal than ever. If Congress can’t cut costs (and I think for one- foreign aid should be cut) and balance the budget, they are NOT doing what we sent them to do.
Yet all we hear is, “The Republicans this” or “The democrats that.”I feel like I am watching a bunch of fools standing and beating their chests to prove who is more powerful, not who is in the right. I think we need to fire Congress and send in people who are going to do what they need to do to get our budget on track.

And yet no one has seen Barry’s birth certificate, or his college transcripts. They say he has a Connecticut social security number. I don’t know. But why has he spent over four million dollars to keep his records sealed? What is he hiding? We know more about Paul Ryan in less than a week than we know about Nobama. But all that aside he is a terrible president. I don’t care where he was born as much as where he lives now. I want to change his home address. And I don’t care what Romney did with his money as much as I care what Nobama wants to do with mine. He wants to redistribute it. Why don’t democrats understand that hard working Americans want to decide how to spend their money? And all you older people who are buying the democratic talking point that Ryan’s plan will kill medicare, just look at it. It will not affect anyone 55 or older. It will let younger people know that we are on a path that is unsustainable. Nobamecare cuts 700 million dollars out of Medicare. Do you get it? Nobama can not win on his record. So he has to lie about Romney-Ryan. Biden said that RR will put you back in chains. That is how you can spot a democrat. They always accuse conservatives of doing what they are actually doing. And uninformed people always buy it.

My pleasure, though feeding you information about something you can find out on your own, just for you to deny it because you want to think he is doing good in AZ, will be a wasted effort.

We will start with an easy one, wasting police resources to investigate birther claims, a federal issue, not a county one, when he is the Sheriff of the county with the worst, and worsening, crime statistics in AZ. I wish I could I could paste the info here, but you’ll just have to look it up, over 58% rise in a decade. The rest of AZ counties are decreasing. Reel some of those resources in man.

MCSO is the polar opposite in regards to clearing cases. Depending on the year, 18 to 24% of cases are closed with an arrest, the rest as exceptional clearances, no that does not mean exceptionally done. The rest of the states departments have the opposite numbers, equivalent to the rest of the country.

400 sex crime cases were not investigated (12-04-11)boston.com news, including 26 children with identified molesters. Serious crimes are ignored for the sake of pleasing his favorite constituents, rich suburban white folks that don’t like the Mexicans.

Opening investigations, which utilized more departmental resources, against any politician that runs against him or his cronies, as well as judges, members of the board of supervisors etc. The latter costing 5.6 millions dollars of tax money in the lawsuits of which all were lost, along with the money. He was found to have misused the power of his office in 2010. In all of this one person was successfully prosecuted, Sandra Dowling, former school superintendent who had 25 felony indictments issued by Arpaio and his County Attorney, was convicted of a class 2 misdemeanor for getting her daughter a job. Way to go Joe, millions of dollars and many an hour of wasted court space to convict someone of the equivalent of illegal dumping of trash.

I won’t go too deep into the detention side of things, because I already know the answer will be, “they’re criminals, who cares?”, but as much money has been wasted on having to settle wrongful death suits in the jail or being fined for absolute disregard for standards, who cares how much he saves putting up tents, it goes right into the families of the inmates pockets. So you want me to analyze? Let the taxes pay for a jail the does not lose its accreditation three times since Arpaio took over, or let the taxes buy homes for the inmates families, or if you prefer, buying more drugs.

In 2010 he was fined another $158,978 for election law violation. Tax money at work.

That pales in comparison to the analysis by the Maricopa County office of Management and Budget that showed that he had misspent 100 Million in just 5 years.

Ever since this ego-maniacal cretin took over, he has been single minded about one thing, getting in the newspapers, on TV and being a celebrity. His deputies, well the ones that are not complicit, and the citizens that are not under his wing pay for his desire for celebrity.

Why is he still there, you will say, if he is so terrible, because the least affected keep voting him in, and you cant educate an Arizonian, as they are 4th or 5th (depending on the study) from the bottom in the country for education.

There is much more, but you have to find it yourself, it is out there, but I am not your guide. Just know I once was a homophobic republican with a penchant for border fences also, but a couple of close calls made me want to know more about the world, and once the blinders are off, whoooo doggy, it gets interesting.

What they fail to mention is Bain Capital actually saved over 80% of the businesses they got involved with. Now face the fact that Mitt Romney was hired to do a job for Bain Capital, he did that job EXTREMELY well, even the democrats said this same thing. Now Mitt Romney is running for the Presidency of the United States of America and everyone wants to throw him under the bus for performing exceptionally well with Bain Capital. Well folks, that was his job and he did it very well. Now lets give him the opportunity to run this Country and see if he can be as successful as he was with Bain. I mean the current President is not setting the bar very high so any success is an improvement. The USA is a Democratic country, more of a Republic actually but far from a Socialist Country that Mr. Obama wants it to be. Just read and educate yourself. Obama says he wants a Country where wealth is shared…..Romney/Ryan say they want everyone to have the same opportunity but will not gaurentee a successful outcome. That is up to each individual. Shared wealth? That is Socialist if I ever heard of anything Socialist. The problem with Socialisim is eventually you run out of other peoples money…We are not qualified to judge anyone, that is God’s job. If we must ‘Judge” anyone please remember to judge them by the content of their charecter, not the color of their skin. Either way, I will vote for a new president cause the one we currently have has failed us miserably. At any rate, PLEASE READ AND EDUCATE YOURSELVES, read everything from Fox News to CNN to Real Clear Politics to MSNBC get both sides story and make a educated decision based on what you interpret from the information available. Do not let some talking head on television make such an important decision for you. I know what the polls say but I have no faith in them. While they poll anyone who will answer the phone, how about those of us who are working everyday and some working multiple jobs to make ends meet? When are they going to poll them? They are never home to answer the telephone. That is where the real decision will be made.

My point was that many seem to think that the recession occurred as a result of the current president. The economy took a considerable hit and it does not bounce back very quickly.

Points that many fail to see when it comes to things like unemployment, the population, just for the employable ages, rose 8,100,00. This is a good thing because, as any economist would tell you, the strength and growth of a nation and its economy has much to do with the size of its workforce compared against its non-workforce (retirees and children). This growth in population in the midst of the worst recession in over half a century paints a pale picture.

While I am not ecstatic about all measures that the President has taken, and I question some of his methods, I have to back him and give him the four more years to pull it off. I would look into the other option, but I have yet to hear anything solid from Romney, and time’s a wasting.

We know that he wants to give the rich a tax break, wants to increase taxes on the middle class, wants to scale back teachers, police and firemen.

Romney made a fortune tearing up companies and shipping jobs overseas and he denies it but won’t release his tax records that can tell the truth.

This is an election where we lose out regardless, Obama is the lesser of two evils here whether you like him or not.

Romney needs to do serious damage control because he’s attacking a healthcare system he implemented in his state before Obama did it nationally and he attacks the President for using bailout money for jobs overseas when Romney made a living sending jobs overseas.

But he turned many of them around and they are still in business. He knows how to run a business. Nobama only knows how to be a community organizer. He certainly doesn’t know how to run a country. Nobama has to personally attack R and R because he cannot run on his record. He has the worse record as a president of anyone in history. He makes Jimmy Carter look like a genious. The number of families on welfare had been falling steadily and, nine months into the recession, stood at 1.6 million in September 2008, the most recent date for which national tallies are available.” (The Wall Street Journal) “A record number of Americans – about 14 percent – now rely on the federal government’s food stamps program and its rapid expansion in recent years has become a politically explosive topic.
More than 44.5 million Americans received SNAP benefits in March, an 11 percent increase from one year ago and nearly 61 percent higher than the same time four years ago. Nearly 21 million households are reliant on food stamps.” (ABC)

Whew, now I am tired after sifting through so much silliness. Unfortunately it is not silly when misinformed zealots gain numbers. I wasn’t ecstatic about Barack Obama in 2008, but I was scared to death of the McCain/Palin ticket and voted against them best I could. It’ll be the same this time around, though I would love a third choice that was a little more middle ground. The sides are too polarized for me to pick one.

As for the independents, well you might as well throw your vote away in this country. I understand that it’s this mental process that keeps a good possibility from even showing. But the great majority, blue or red get their political parties like they get their religion, from their parents, and if you are the type of person who can just take what is handed to you as the only truth, you are much too lazy to actually try and find it.

I am sick to death of the spin that implies that some do not like Obama “because he is a black man”! It has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin. It has everything to do with his failed policies. Maybe it is because our deficit has grown to historical highs in the short time he has been our President. Maybe it is because those of us who actually pay Federal income taxes are tired of propping everyone else up and footing the bill for this country. Maybe it is because we are tired of one in three Americans being on the government’s dole and he promotes and even encourages folks to get onboard. Have you seen the commercials lately? You know, the ones that talk about how great food stamps, WIC, and free cell phones are?? All aboard! It disgusts me to know that some are on some or all forms of public assistance vs. getting off their butts to get one or two jobs. I did it as a single parent of four vs. asking for what in today’s time amounts to a handout. I agree that some individuals truly need the help, but in my opinion those individuals are limited to seniors and those who TRULY cannot take care of themselves vs. able bodied people. It makes me crazy that some on public assistance can “afford” cable TV, flat screen TVs, iPhones, nice cars, and to get their nails done regularly, while they cannot afford to buy their own food with the same money that provides them with these luxuries or buy school supplies for their own kids or actually pay for their kids’ meals at school. President Obama supports their ability to have all this free stuff vs. encourages them to actually get off their butts and get a j-o-b. All this free stuff and then a bonus at the end of the year, when taxes are done. You know, getting much more back than is “paid” in? Someone please explain how we can continue to afford what to some, has become a way of life?

You do realize that more people went on the welfare rolls each year under Bush than under President Obama, right? factcheck.org. The rates, lower than the previous president, have a lot to do with the economy which, believe it or not, crashed and burned right before the last guy got out of office, not after.

Ah, Where to begin? Mrs. Walden, with all due respect, what planet are you from? You say that Nobama has done a
great job in spite of the determined efforts by some to see him fail. Are you kidding me? This is the only president in history who has been given a free pass by the press. It doesn’t matter how bad he is no one in the press will say anything bad about him because he is black. That is not to mention the fact that they love him because he is a leftist just like they are. You, I believe, call yourself a Christian. Nobama is the first US President to come out (excuse the pun) in favor of gay marriage. He is going to use tax payer money for abortion. (that is killing unborn babies, not removing tissue for you idiots who somehow don’t believe that life begins at conception) It seems everytime his lips move he is telling another lie. How can you support that? But beyond the religious element, he is the worse president in history. And I don’t care if he black, white or purple. The facts speak for themselves. Look at his record. Obamacare is the worse policy ever thrown down the throat of the American citizen. It will destroy the best health care system the world has ever known. We have the largest deficit ever. His administration has increased the welfare and social security disability roles more than any in history. (I know, it was Bush’s fault, right? )China pretty much now owns us. We are sitting on millions of barrels of oil and still be held hostage by OPEC. He is turning our allies against us while sucking up to dictators. He and Hillary want the UN telling us what we can do with our 2nd Ammendment rights. He is giving away our national defense secrets. Oh, and you talk about a congress who won’t help him. You have to be kidding me. He had both houses his first two years. That is how he got Obamacare through. He still has a senate that kills every measure the house tries to get through. It is now obvious that he has the Supreme Court as well. I don’t understand how you could say that. I have so much more that I could say on your letter. but I know it is a waste of time. You are going to vote for him because he is black. It doesn’t matter that he is going to turn us all into government dependant slaves.

We all know some people (wink wink) start their day off with a big cup of crazy, but how in the world can you think that Obamacare is going to destroy the greatest health care system in the world, you know Germany’s. I wanted to use a Beaufort T. Justice quote there. But the censors would get me. As for the Tax money for abortions, you have to add “This was not intended to be a factual statement.” to get away with it. Like Jon Kyl.

There is so much I could say to those who continue to believe that it is in our nations best interest to borrow 40% of what we are spending and take more from those who work to give to those who don’t.
For starters, Mrs. Walden, what are Obama’s successes?

Back when I was in Bush’s holy war I knew China was paying my hostile fire pay. President Obama got a turkey dropped in his lap after eight years of borrowing and overspending to pay for the KBR war. My main complaint is the President was weak towards the unbending and unthinking bunch of tea party republicans that slipped into government.

I will continue to pray that all citizens will have their eyes open to the truth, that the spirit of deception will be removed so that the truth can be seen, and that all Christians will vote as Christ would have us vote. Speak up for morality when you cast your vote.

Then go ahead and vote for Obambolona if it makes you feel better. You people crack me up when you call him “The Black Man” but will not recognise the other half of the failed individual. He is a failed individual who is both black and white. Do you people start every day with a bowl full of racism for breakfast?
