Woman charged with allegedly attempting to burn down home

Published 11:33am Wednesday, October 10, 2012

FRANKLIN—A Franklin woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to burn down her home, said Police Lt. Tim Whitt.

Mary Banks, 62, on Oct. 30, 2011, allegedly set paper and clothes on fire in two different locations of her home at 571 Laurel St., Whitt said. Firefighters saved the home, which was insured and remains Banks’ residence.

“After the fire was put out, evidence of the fire being intentional was collected and sent to the lab,” Whitt said.

A grand jury recently indicted Banks, who was arrested on Oct. 2.

So technically the fire hasn’t started yet……a crime has not been committed. This story makes no sence!

Did she start the fire on Oct. 30 of 2011?
Why did they arrest her 28 days before she committed the crime?

This whole article confuses me. She set the fires, yet wasn’t home. They were set on Oct 30, yet she was arrested on Oct 2. Proofreading shouldn’t be a lost science.

I see the article has now been edited to clarify that the fire was set in 2011. Thanks.
