HAMPTON—The No. 7-ranked Tidewater Academy volleyball team’s season came to an end Tuesday after loosing to No. 2 Hampton Christian 0-3 in the state tournament.
Set scores were 12-25, 17-25, 15-25.
“We played a tough Hampton Christian team,” said TA Head Coach Jimmy Dunn. “They were a lot better than us that night.”
Tidewater earned its ranking for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Tournament after winning the Virginia Commonwealth Conference regular season championship. The Raiders won the VCC tournament and finished the season 21-4 overall.
Senior Cary Beahm was named the VCC Player of the Year and the VCC tournament Most Valuable Player.
“I am extremely proud of the girls,” Dunn said. “They played hard and they came together and had a really good season.”
Top players against Hampton Christian were Beahm with 6 kills; senior Falon Williams added 3 kills and 17 digs.
“We will miss our three seniors next year, but we have five juniors who will be returning,” Dunn said. “And we look to build on what we started this year and we hope to have a good year next year also.”
