Inauguration of President Obama moving moment

Published 7:13am Saturday, January 26, 2013

To the Editor:

On Monday, I don’t believe there were any Americans who watched the Inauguration Ceremony for the swearing-in of President Barack Obama for the second term, who was not moved with love and compassion for the First Family in one way or another.

This is a family so serene, unruffled, bright and deserving of the highest respect of all. Having Supreme Court justices present for the swearing-in ceremony afforded them an opportunity to think about the responsibility incumbent upon them to perform their duties in the most just, equal and honorable way.

The fervent and earnest prayer was delivered by Myrlie Evers-Williams, widow of Medgar Evers, who lost his life for the cause of freedom. The program participants all performed with a spirit of confidence that showed their desire to set an appropriate tone to preface the speech that would follow by our president.

Everyone who participated displayed a great sense of pride, honor and appreciation to be a part of such a historical celebration.

Another memorable occasion that factored into the spirit of the celebration was the honoring of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who lived, suffered and died for the cause of freedom. He fought for all Americans who were denied their inalienable rights.

However, today we must continue the fight to maintain the progress made thus far. We must continue on behalf of those of us who have been denied too much. And we must prevent the destruction of our accomplishments by legislators who still are unable to accept progress.

There must be some change in the thinking and actions of Republican legislators who were elected to serve the people throughout Virginia and our nation. Their constituents expect them to act responsibly and intelligently when speaking on their behalf.

This cannot be done by just saying “no,” often followed by some stupefied response exposing the ignorance of the legislation before them. Beyond saying “no” to everything possible, the non-performing, Republican-led Congress has accomplished nothing to their credit, except being very transparent in exposing who they really are — a financial burden on the nation for the last four years. No one has to be a genius to determine their intentions.

“We The People” should be proud that God created this great man born of a white mother and an African father, who has led this nation remarkably well in spite of so much planned opposition. He is a brilliant person with a heart of love, dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Americans.

America is beautiful, but it could be more beautiful if we only follow the lead.

Reminds me of the scene in the movie “Titanic”. The beautiful music is playing from the string section while the mighty ship slips into the icy water and hundreds perish. Futility in action. That is how I see our country today, slipping into the point of no return. And many who should know better act like it’s all OK. History will be the judge, and the verdict will not be pretty.

Too sad a viewpoint to even be laughable. ANother sad commentary on our country.

I know. I didn’t even mention that it was the democratic southern states who left the union in the 1860s to preserve slavery. The northern democratic states weren’t against slavery but wanted to preserve the union so they stayed in and fought for it. Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, was elected because he wanted to abolish alavery. It was he who issued the proclamation freeing slaves in the states in rebellion. It was Republicans (they held the White House and both Houses of Congress) who eliminated slavery with the 13th Amendment. After the war the first nine black Congressmen were Republicans. You see, you can’t argue with historical facts even if you think you can change history.

Mrs. Walden, I firmly believe that every citizen of this country has the right to express their opinion no matter what planet they are from. You must be living in an alternative universe. You seem to blame the problems in this country on Republicans. I guess you are like Danny Glover and believe that the purpose of the 2nd Amendment was to prevent slaves from uprising. You people (not black, but ignorant of history) need to face the facts that it was the democrats who oppressed blacks after the War Between the States. It was the democrats who were the KKK. It was the democrats who started the government handouts which have evolved into a generation of freeloaders. It was the democrats who put us in Viet Nam and killed 50,000 Americans for nothing. It was the democrats who started the biggest ponzi scheme in history called Social Security. It was a democrat (LBJ) who said let’s pass the civil rights law and we will get all the blacks to vote for us forever. (He was right, but he used another word instead of blacks) It is the democrats who have been bought out by the unions to cater to their desires. And although the the media painted Romney as being the favorite of big business Obama received more corporate donations. The democrats gave us financial institutions who were forced to lend money to people who had no business being able to borrow it. It has been the democrats who have increased entitlement spending and raised taxes at every opportunity. It is the democrats and their union boss croonies who have forced American industries to move overseas. It is the democrats who are gutting our military while handing jet fighters and tanks to Egypt. And it is the democrats and specifically Obama and Clinton who turned their backs on Americans fighting muslims in Benghazi. They let those four Americans die as they watched. And Hillery, it does matter. No, Mrs. Walden not all Americans celebrated the inauguration of a socialist, anti-American leader of the formally free world. And please phone home.

    Thanx for the congrats!
RE: “…too bad you couldn’t make it up to the 5th grade ….”

Yes it is too bad! We all can’t be ‘brainiacs.’ But each person has a niche — even 4th grade dropouts. Sprawl-Mart needs cart wranglers just like NASA needs rocket scientists.

RE: “I don’t answer to you.” You got that?
Yes I got that! (Answering your interrogatory statement)

@Scott15 — RE: “… or is the popcorn still jammed in your goozle?)”

“NO!” My lady performed the Heimlich maneuver and removed it — remember? I am fine now — thanks for asking!

Sorry but I have to take you back to grammar school — the 4th grade — for a little review!
At the end of your statement above — WHICH I ANSWERED — was a question mark (?).
Mrs. Myrick taught me in the 4th grade that a (?) indicates an interrogatory statement! That calls for a declarative statement followed by a period (.) or other punctuation.

    You got that?

Let’s try my interrogatory statement again:
Who are you praying to — Beelzebub?

Well congratulations for making it all the way through the 4th grade. Your numerous posts suggest that your mind is uncapable of comprehending thoughts that would take you that far in school, but I’m sure that everyone you put down on here with your condescending remarks is glad that Mrs. Myrick taught you how a question mark is properly used. It is too bad you couldn’t make it up to the 5th grade and further in your education.
Now as for your “interrogatory statement,” I don’t answer to you.

      You got that?

These United States were founded by tough, rugged men who spoke strongly against tyranny, evaded high taxes, grew their own food, brewed their own spirits and were not afraid to use their own weapons. She can only be saved by those types. There is an uprising coming and it ain’t gonna be good if we stay on the path we are on!

Like Congressman Joe Wilson (R- S.C.) said during the SOTU address: “YOU LIE!YOU LIE!”
You said that you pray for the country (which includes the Executive Branch/President) “three times a day!” Most sensible people pray for the well-being of others and things that they cherish!

How can you say that you pray for America 3 times a day if you are hoping that the will of 51% of the American people will be thwarted by the departure of their duly elected President?

Who are you praying to — Beelzebub?

I hate to burst your “naïve bubble” — but there were PROBABLY several million Americans who were absolutely repulsed to the point of nausea — MANY — PROBABLY right here in Franklin! LOL

There were PROBABLY several million more so disgusted by the President and the First Family that they refused to watch the inauguration — MANY — PROBABLY right here in Franklin! LOL

There are many circular thinkers who walk among us whose intellectual capacity to embrace change is non-existent. They constantly — proudly spout the same old asinine — racially-tinged — trite — stereotypical bile/claptrap and half-truths mined from the deep recesses of their emotionally immature minds.

Many were indoctrinated with this nonsense/negative values as children and probably have never thought about or had reason to question the negative values embedded into their impressionable minds.

Nonetheless — they never fail to entertain with their jaundiced but very heartfelt POV!

What a very articulate — supportive and moving tribute to our President — the lovely and charming First Lady and their well-mannered — beautiful children. What an inspiring sight for Black children and indeed all children to think that children of any color can grow up in the White House and be “First Children!”

Millions of Americans of all colors watched — beaming with pride — joy and appreciation — rightfully proud of America during the dignified but festive inauguration ceremony.

Our Founding Fathers were probably proudly looking on from on high — proud of President Obama — as well as proud of a system of government that they created which lived up to the creed: “All men are created equal!”

    Thanx for sharing!

RE: “Retired coworkers now have a limit of hrs that they can work…”
“Hmmmmmm?” Co-workers retired — some 70-years-old but still need more hours may indicate poor planning while working relative to saving — investing and preparing for reduced income while retired.

They may also have been spendthrifts while working and still have bad spending habits — living above their means.

Of course — it’s easier to divert anger to “fat lazy tails’ ” than people who may make bad decisions causing their own $$ predicaments. More $$ won’t help someone who can’t handle $$.

Ask your retired coworkers if they are wasting their $$ buying up assault rifles/arsenals and 1000s of rounds of ammo?

Well Mrs. Walden I hate to bring it to your attention but I was not moved with love and compassion. It was just another inauguration. Your beliefs in what you saw are, quietly racially motivated. You even prove it at the end by saying ““We The People” should be proud that God created this great man born of a white mother and an African father.” Mrs. Walden, I ask, who exactly is “we the people” you are referring to African-Americans or all Americans? and why did you referrence his fathers African Heritage but only call his mother “a white mother”? Does she not deserve to be referred to as Europian,Scottish, Irish or whatever her heritage? I believe you saw what you described but you must realize there are many Americans that do not share your opinion or beliefs.
