Published 12:03pm Tuesday, January 29, 2013

SMITHFIELD—The shooting death of a 17-year-old from Smithfield, who attended the alternative school in Windsor, is being investigated as a possible accident, the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deandre James Thomas died at 10 p.m. Monday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

A handgun was found at the scene of the shooting scene — a home on Old Stage Highway in Smithfield. There was no sign of forced entry or struggle, the sheriff’s office reported.

Geez! See what I have been stating all along …our local reporters just don’t have a clue and are LAZY. They truly can’t desire this community to progress by printing misleading headlines and untrue “facts” in their reports – especially about our kids and our schools.

I am sure there must be professional journalism 101 courses at PDCCC they can take to improve on their reporting skills. I am wondering if we can apply the Governors new school grading system to their reports?

Keep holding them accountable TWN readers.

The student died at home…not at school. He attended the Alternative School, but was Smithfield High student.

Headline is misleading. Why did they even have to state what school he went to when he was killed at a home?
