COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy girls’ basketball team outscored Virginia Commonwealth Conference opponent Brunswick Academy in the second half to win 43-22 on Friday.

The Lady Raiders led 17-12 at halftime.

“We had a very good second half,” said SA Coach Chris Pope. “We played great team defense.”

SA improves to 5-7 in the VCC.

Junior Morgan Pope led the Lady Raiders with 22 points, while senior Barclay Gatten pulled down 12 rebounds.

“Brunswick ran a box defense on Sarah Best and that basically took her out of the game,” Pope said.
