Raiders win 50-7

KINSTON, N.C.—The Raiders came out on the opening kickoff, drove the ball down the field for a touchdown, and didn’t look back.

At the end of the first quarter, the score was 30-0 Southampton Academy Raiders (4-0) over the Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots (3-1). The score was 42-0 at halftime.

“We came out and jumped on them quickly,” said head coach Dale Marks. “We just kind of cruised in the second half.

“We did a lot of things well tonight. We threw the ball some and completed a long pass. We stretched the field. We also completed some short passes.”

Marks said the Raiders played a complete game.

“Defensively, we shut them down in the first half,” he said. “I thought defensively we were really on our game.

“They are a pretty physical group,” Marks said of the Patriots. “They are spreading the ball out more than in the past, but they still like to run it. They have a power running game. I thought we stepped up and did a very good job.”

Southampton Academy was 5-11 with 102 yards passing, and had 314 yards on 37 carries. Arendell Parrott Academy had 58 yards on 31 carries. The Patriots also completed 4-9 in the passing game for 78 yards.

Quarterback Matt Rose led the team in rushing with 95 yards on two attempts. He had three rushing touchdown. Rose also had a passing touchdown, a 49-yard toss to Tonee Hill. Rose was 409 passing for 86 yards.

Tonee Hill had 61 rushing yards on 6 attempts, and he had two rushing touchdowns.

On 1 attempt, Cam Hines rushed for 49 yards and had a touchdown.

The first score of the game came on the opening drive, ending in a 12-yard touchdown run by Hill. Paul Parker completed the two-point conversion on a run attempt.

Hill scored the next touchdown of the game with a 19-yard run. The conversion attempt failed. The score was 14-0.

Hill also had the third score of the game, the 49-yard touchdown pass from Rose. Rose scored the two-point conversion.

Before the first quarter was over, Rose scored on a 33-yard run. Edwards was successful on the two-point conversion. The score at the end of the first quarter was 30-0.

In the second quarter, Hines led off with a score on a 49-yard run. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

Rose had a 38-yard run for the next touchdown. His pass attempt for the two-point conversion failed. The score at the half was 42-0.

The last score for the Raiders came in the third quarter, with Rose’s 8-yard run.

Southampton Academy plays in Courtland this upcoming week against the Hobgood Academy Raiders.
