IOW Sheriff makes another plea for public’s help in abduction case

Published 11:36am Wednesday, October 16, 2013

ISLE OF WIGHT—The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office continues to ask the public’s help in finding the man suspected of abducting and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old Carrollton girl on the morning of Oct. 2.

The hope is that people will reconsider case details. Although the sketch has been widely publicized, there are descriptors of the suspect that don’t appear in the drawing. Further, there are important vehicle descriptors that do not appear in the photo.

The victim gave many other important details, and the sheriff’s office believes an alert person might be able to provide that final needed tip by paying attention to those details.

At 7:50 a.m. (all times are approximate), the girl was taken by a white man driving a silver or gray two-door car as she walked from her home to a school bus stop in the Carrollton section, which is near the James River Bridge.

They were seen on Quaker Road in Suffolk at 11 a.m. Ultimately, the child was released near her Carrollton home at noon.

During the roughly four-hour ordeal, the abductor stopped and sexually assaulted the child at two locations. The second assault scene has been located off Route 258 (Courthouse Highway) in Isle of Wight County. But the first assault scene has not been located, and is the subject of this plea.

Based on the child’s recollection, investigators believe the two traveled south from Carrollton into North Carolina, and then returned northward through downtown Suffolk.

The first assault scene is believed to be located somewhere in southeast Virginia or northeast North Carolina, within about two hours’ drive of Carrollton.

Investigators are looking for a dilapidated, abandoned two-story wood-framed structure, which is described as a brown wooden house.

There are no shingles on the roof and it may be partially collapsing. The child also said one wall is caved in, and an old sofa can be seen through a caved wall. In her estimation, the house is located approximately 200 yards off the paved road, and can be seen from that road. There are discarded HVAC units in the rear. There is a wood line to the left; the other side is grassy.

The child added that across the paved road is a well-kept two-story house, white with red shutters and a gray roof.

There is a new-looking wooden fence only around the back yard. Parked in the driveway was an SUV of unidentified color.
