FRANKLIN—On Saturday, the wrestling teams of Southampton and Franklin participated in a tournament at Franklin High School.
In the Matt Bryant Memorial Tournament, Franklin went 3-1, and Southampton 1-3.
Franklin, which is now 6-4 on the season, defeated Northumberland, Lake Taylor and Norfolk Christian; the Broncos lost to Middlesex. They finished fourth out of 11 teams present.
Southampton, which is now 3-4, defeated Sussex; and lost to Matthews, Lancaster and Essex.
Lancaster ultimately won the tournament.
Senior Devine Fenner, 152, won all four of his matches. Senior Sam McDonald, 195, won three of his four matches.
“I’ve got a lot of young kids,” said Southampton Head Coach Tim Mason. “It didn’t go bad. It gave them a chance to get some experience. It was a dual tournament, so we got to switch out and give as many people a chance to wrestle as possible.”
For Franklin, Jack Sykes, 195, is now 14-1 on the season. Anthony Davis, heavyweight, is 10-4. Shane Walker, 182, is 9-3.
