WAKEFIELD—On Tuesday, Tidewater Academy faced off against Fuqua Academy and fell 42-34.

The Warriors got off to a good start in the first quarter, going up 13-8, but an 11-7 score reversal in the second quarter reduced the lead to 20-19 going into the locker room. Fuqua would take the lead on a 15-point effort in the third, and never look back, allowing only 5 points in the third and 9 in the fourth.

Despite the offensive drought for the rest of the Warriors, Elanté Drew had a big night scoring 24 of TA’s 34.

On Monday night, TA fell to Amelia Academy in Wakefield 57-42. The Patriots got off to a big lead in the first quarter, 19-7, and though the Warriors had some big quarters in the second and third, putting up 17 and 14 respectively, they were never able to get back in it, and a 16-point fourth quarter from Amelia Academy put it out of reach.

In the loss, Daniel McKenney put up 18 points, shooting 4-4 from the free throw line and knocking down 4 3-point baskets. McKenney had 10 points in the second quarter.

On Friday, at home against rival Southampton Academy, the Warriors pulled ahead early and almost let the Raiders back in it during the fourth quarter, as they won 55-48.

The Warriors won the first quarter 18-10, with McKenney hitting two three-pointers. In a low scoring second, TA edged out the Raiders 8-7. The Raiders came out in the third and put up 11 points, but the Warriors matched it and more with 17, going up 43-28.

SA’s Cam Hines went off in the fourth quarter, however, scoring 12 of the Raider’s 20 points and making several trips to the free throw line, though he only made 2 of 6.

It wasn’t quite enough, however, as TA put in enough baskets to keep a comfortable lead until the buzzer sounded on SA’s comeback attempt.

McKenney led the Warriors in scoring with 18 points, with 15 of those points coming from three-pointers. He made a three in every quarter.

Three other TA players had double-digit scores, with Marty Gura putting in 15, Drew 12 and Payton Holdworth had 11.

Hines had 25 total points on the night, and he was the only Raider to put up double digit points. Tonee Hill and Johnny Tribbett were close with 9 each, Tribbett’s points all from three-point baskets.

Going back to Feb. 4, the Warriors defeated Brunswick 47-44.

Brunswick came out strong, scoring 28 points in the first half, including 18 in the first quarter. TA was behind 28-25 in the first half, but the Warriors had a big third quarter to go ahead, scoring 16 points while only allowing 7. Though Brunswick won the fourth quarter 9-6, it wasn’t enough to take the lead again.

Drew scored 22 points in the effort. Holdworth added 13 and spent a lot of time on the free-throw line, hitting 11-13.

The Warriors are 17-6 on the season. They face off against Amelia Academy tonight on the road and return to Wakefield on Monday night against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot.
