Firearm stolen from vehicle

Published 9:58am Friday, June 27, 2014

FRANKLIN—When a Franklin resident returned from lunch at a downtown restaurant on Wednesday, he saw that his front passenger seat window had been broken out, said Sioux Johnson, media relations spokeswoman for the Franklin Police Department.

Inside, he saw that his .25 caliber pistol, which had been placed in plain view on the front passenger seat, was missing. He reported the theft, which happened near the 100 Block of S. Main Street, to the police department.

The Franklin Police Department would like to remind firearm owners to keep guns locked away and out of plain sight. When leaving guns in your vehicle, lock firearms in your glove compartment or trunk to avoid becoming a victim of theft.

If anyone has any information regarding the stolen firearm, please contact Franklin Police Department at 562-8575 or Franklin Crime Solvers at 562-8599.

Oh, thats why I could not find any guns in the river, they were already dredged up. I dragged that area for several hours a few years ago with high power magnets, but all I got was rust, lots of rust and a few old nails.

What restaurant was the person at? I think Freds does not allow firearms inside.

Law abiding citizens who do not possess a concealed handgun permit are placed in a tricky situation when carrying or transporting a handgun. The handgun must be in a plain view when the person is in the vehicle, otherwise he/she can be charged with possession of a concealed handgun. At some point, the handgun must be concealed if not left out on the seat or floorboard. Maybe he/she just forgot it was there (poor gun safety) or was trying to remain lawful. Just another reason for all law abiding citizens to have a CCW license. Problem solved.

Good reason to not go to Fred’s. I try and avoid any business that will not allow me to exercise my second amendment right!
