Fourth of July closings set

Published Friday, July 3, 2009

Because the Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year, area agencies had to choose between closing on Friday or Sunday — or not at all — to celebrate the holiday.

Franklin and Southampton County administrative offices will close today.

Area post offices will close on Saturday and only be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The Newsoms town office will keep its regular hours.

The Tidewater News will close its office on Monday for staff members to observe the holiday.

Mail subscribers who usually receive their Sunday edition in Saturday’s mail will not receive it until Monday, due to the Postal Service’s being closed Saturday.

The newspaper’s publication schedule will otherwise be uninterrupted, and normal office hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles offices, including the one in Courtland on Southampton Parkway, will be closed all day Friday and Saturday.

City of Franklin residents whose garbage normally is picked up on Friday will have it picked up on Monday.

The Southeastern Public Service Authority’s Franklin Transfer Station will close at noon today.
