Suspect in Adams Grove slaying pleads innocent

Published Friday, July 3, 2009

COURTLAND—Southampton County resident Brian Jerome Scott, 23, pleaded innocent Thursday to charges connected to the 2007 slaying of a 21-year-old man.

Scott appeared before Southampton County Circuit Court Judge Carl E. Eason Jr. on Thursday to be arraigned on charges of first-degree murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a murder and the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The charges stem from the Feb. 13, 2007, shooting death of Tirail Jackson, who was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a home on Hicksford Road in the Adams Grove area of Drewryville.

Scott waived his right to a formal arraignment and requested a jury trial. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8, and a jury trial will begin Oct. 6.

Another suspect in the murder, Tiona Martine Tucker, plead not guilty to the same three charges as Scott. Her jury trial is set to begin Sept. 15.
