Anyone want to lay odds that the previous post will be removed? Unbelievable.

Best wishes to Derrick.

To the out of town readers; please don't think the comments of "PreserveNature" reflect the knowledge level of our area residents. Many of our farmers are college educated and neither lazy or greedy. Also please don't think that citizens of our area in general are ignorant enough to make the Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc argument as posited by "PreserveNature".

Why is the columnist so snarky towards MacAuliffe? I would like my local publication to support efforts to bring large manufacturers to the area rather than taunting them. I would hope that our paper would encourage these efforts no matter what Mr. MacAuliffe's motives seem to be.

I think the real purpose of the letter was to complain about Gov. Kaine. Complaining about a $5 fee that has to be paid once every year or two is just bizarre. Also, I believe the cost did not go up for those going to DMV but rather it went down for those using the internet.

This is good news! The incentives offered by the designation coupled with the existing industrial sites/parks should give Franklin and Southampton a leg-up in attracting new employers. Thank you Mr. Kaine. The timing could not be better.

The largest slave insurrection in United States history is certainly worthy of $500K. Now is not the time to stop investing in our resources. There has been much talk of our agricultural and timber resources in the past weeks. Our historical resources are going to be increasingly important in the coming years. An investment now will only enhance our cultural and historical resource base. This will prove to be money well spent.

btw: I went to Phillie and DC when I was a student. I have since taken my children to these places. I'm glad the people of Phillie and DC had the forethought to make their historic places accessible. Imagine if the folks in Phillie had decided that it was too expensive to save Independence Hall and let it crumble and be forgotten. Visiting historic places makes me feel a part of the history. I have toured the Nat Turner sites in the past and if you allow yourself to, you can learn to appreciate the harshness of the world in which our forefathers endured and struggled to overcome for our benefit. I feel very fortunate that my nation has always seen the importance of preserving our history for posterity. Our community is now beginning to invest in it's historical resources. Each project adds to the cultural and historical experiences available to our neighbors. The Train station and the new bathrooms at Barrett's Landing, and the farmer's market. The proposed Nottoway Indian Village and the Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Courtland. The Rochelle-Prince House, Museum of Southampton History and Mahone's Tavern. The Rawls Museum and the Rawls Arts Center. Each of these is one brush stroke that will help make the picture of our economic future. Now is not the time to stop investing in our future.

I'm getting the impression that many of these posts are from people connected to the FPD somehow. If this type of juvenile taunting indicates the quality of people on the force may god have mercy of the City of Franklin.

Rocko: Your digging has paid off at last. I can't take the deceit any longer and feel I must come clean.

That's the way we keep the Good Ole Boys Network(TM) going. We have to get new recruits as the older members die off or get arrested. After Mr. Moyler plead guilty we knew we would have an opening so the membership committee of the Good Ole Boys Network(TM) met two weeks ago and decided we had one opening. Then Ms. Fleming involvement in The Network(TM) was compromised by some pesky reporting on our supposedly closed council meeting (a pox on you Tidewater News!). The committee then recommended we recruit two candidates. When the motions of the committee came to a full vote of the GOBN(TM) it was close but we agreed by a 58% majority that we could accommodate 2 new candidates. Please keep in mind that new candidates are under review for a period of no less than 12 months. If they 'play ball' and 'get along' then they can be voted into the Good Ole Boys Network(TM) by a 2/3 majority vote of the full membership. Only about 23% of candidates go on to full membership so if you want an opportunity to become a part of the most dynamic, profitable and powerful network in the area, be patient. We may be recruiting in your neighborhood soon.
There! I feel better to have gotten that off my chest. I hope you feel better too Rocko. You know the 'boys' are going to kill me when they read this.
