Published Friday, November 7, 2008

GFER Forestry Consultants and the Virginia Cooperative Extension will be hosting a Forestry Landowner meeting on November 13 at the Workforce Development Center in Franklin. The meeting will be from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The main purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the recent changes and benefits of the American Tree Farm System. The scheduled speakers for the evening include:

Rob Wait – Virginia Chairman for The American Tree Farm System. Rob will be discussing the benefits of being a Tree Farmer and how it can benefit landowners.

Ken Carter – Natural Resources Conservation Service – Ken will discuss federal and state cost-share opportunities for stand establishment and management. Many landowners don’t realize that they can get assistance with certain forestry management activities.

Aaron Proctor - The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries – Aaron will have a presentation on how you can manage your forest for wildlife.

Terry Godwin (yours truly) – GFER Forestry Consultants – Terry will discuss the benefits of thinning your pine plantation and the pitfalls to watch out for.

The forestry meeting is free of charge but we do ask that you reserve a spot. See you there.
