A: When I used to be an undergraduate, within the early ’90s, I used to be thinking about growth. At that point, the scientific literature was saying that our character and feelings had been absolutely developed by the point we’re 18. I assumed, “Wow, the next 50 years, nothing gets better? This is it?” Then I took a category from Laura Carstensen at Stanford, and he or she was the primary to say that there was extra growth after age 18. She was discovering that in contrast to bodily health or cognition, the place you may even see slowing or declines, emotional regulation and expertise are sometimes nearly as good, if not higher, as we age. I fell in love with the concept of finding out a course of associated to growing older that’s not outlined by decline.
